Trip to Bangkok, Thailand
Our trip to Bangkok, Thailand was for eight days and eight nights.
We arrived in Bangkok on the 14th of March. We were there as
hospice-tourists, while I was tagging along. Thai’s are humble people and also
proud of their past, as Thailand is one of the few developing countries that
was never colonized.
The constitutional head of the country is their King and the
royal family’s role in the country is ceremonial. While the head of the
government and the national assembly is the Prime Minister. Thailand follows a
bicameral parliamentary system; however, the last election the government held
was eight years ago. On the 17th of March this year an early voting
was held for those who registered early and the general election is to be held
on 24th of March 2019.
Thailand is the home of the sporting world’s Tiger Woods and
Alexander Albon, the first Thai to drive in the Formula 1 circuit. Interestingly,
Bangkok has as much 7-11’s as Dhaka has its tea shops. The 7-11 initially
operated from 7am to 11pm; however, today they are open most of the night.
Our hotel was next to a Metro Rail Transit stop or Subway stop
so we had easy access to the vast public transport systems. To visit the sights
in Bangkok we took the MRT and the Light Rail Transit (LRT). Bangkok’s
commercial area is Sukhumvit, which is the main tourist hub, and home to many
Hotels and Restaurants, national and international.
Bangkok’s transportation system is very advanced. They have;
extensive bus routes, MRT, LRT, Taxi, Canal boats, various ride sharing
companies, wide sidewalks, and frequent foot-over-passes.
During our stay we went to two malls; Terminal 21 and Siam
Paragon. On the 18th we went to Terminal 21, a new mall, which is a
multi-storied shopping mall where every floor is named after a European city.
So we went window shopping in Paris and Rome and then dined in the food court.
On the 19th we went to another mall Siam Paragon,
an old shopping mall, where we dined at the food court and I watched a movie at
the Cineplex. We returned to Dhaka on the 22nd with a worthwhile
vacation to Bangkok behind us.
